We are located on the 1st floor of Bays 4 and 5 of the Smith Warehouse (114 S. Buchanan, near the corner of Buchanan and Main). Find us on the Duke Campus Map. For driving directions, please check Google Maps.
Getting here by Bus
The CI/Smith campus bus stops regularly outside Bay 6 on week days. See schedule here.
The Bull City Connector bus stops at Main Street/Campus Drive (East Campus entrance) and Main Street/Peabody Street (Coke Bottling Plant), both are a short walk to Smith. See route map and more info here.
Building Access
Our main entrance is at Bay 4, on the south side of the building complex (facing the Durham Freeway overpass). After hours access is through Bay 6, also on the south side. Extended access will be arranged for evening and weekend events.
Parking
The parking lot on the South side of the Smith Warehouse can be accessed from the Maxwell/Buchanan or Maxwell/Campus Drive intersections. The lot offers 3 options:
- Free 2-hour visitor spots along the front of the building.
- 2 ungated metered areas open to all visitors, one at the Buchanan entrance, one at Campus Drive. The meter is in effect from 7am to 9pm weekdays and 9am to 9pm weekends. The first 30 minutes is free - you can obtain a dashboard pass at the meter. Thereafter the rate is $2 per hour.
- A central gated area, accessible by card swipe to Duke faculty, students and staff after 5pm on weekdays and all day on weekends.
Additional parking for FHI events is available after 5pm on weekdays and all day on weekends at the gravel lot across from Smith on Buchanan, immediately adjacent to the railroad.
